William James 8th grader wins Spelling Bee
A 'unanimous' win for Scarlett Shumate
W SPELLING BEE 01
Scarlett Shumate celebrates after winning the Spelling Bee.
William James Middle School eighth grader Scarlett Shumate, 14, celebrated quietly, but happily after spelling the word "unanimous" to take the title during the 2011 Bulloch County Schools annual Spelling Bee at Sallie Zetterower Elementary School. Children ranging from fourth through eighth grades competed in Monday's spelling bee. Each of the school system's nine elementary and four middle schools held their own bee and winners from each of the schools participated in the system-wide spelling bee.
