Two boys remain in serious condition after a three-car wreck Friday night at the intersection of Lakeview Road and Old River Road North.
Eugene Murkison, 75, was driving a 2002 Ford Explorer, eastbound on Old River Road North as he approached the intersection with Lakeview Road, said Georgia State Patrol Trooper Chris Palmer.
Murkison failed to stop at the stop sign and entered the intersection, where he struck a vehicle driven by Melissia Deal, 44, Dairy Road, Rocky Ford. Then, after impact, his van spun and struck a car parked at the intersection on the opposite side of Old River Road North, he said.
Murkison’s van overturned after the impact with the second car, driven by Stephen Richard Keene, 46, of Canvasback Drive, Bloomingdale.
Of eight occupants in Murkison’s van, two juvenile boys were airlifted to Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah. One child is in the pediatric unit in serious condition while the other remains critical in ICU, Palmer said.
All others, including drivers of the other two vehicles, were “either transported by EMS or private vehicle” to East Georgia Regional Medical Center, he said.
Since the accident investigation is ongoing and reports are incomplete, further details were unavailable Monday, he said. The Murkison family was not immediately available for comment Monday.
