A man wanted on charges in two states was apprehended Monday when Bulloch County sheriff’s deputies answered a suspicious vehicle call.
The green Mercedes Benz parked on Paul Smith Road near Ga. 67 and Interstate 16 was stolen. Deputies responding to the call around 5:30 a.m. used a mobile data computer and ran the Florida tag, learning the car had been reported stolen from Jacksonville, Fla., just hours before, Bulloch County Sheriff Lynn Anderson said.
The driver, Michel Anthony McCullough, 48, of Atlanta, was also listed as a suspect in a sexual assault in Jacksonville, the sheriff said.
That wasn’t all. McCullough also had in his possession some marijuana, and was wanted on further warrants, Anderson said.
“The driver of the vehicle was taken into custody and determined to be wanted out of Alabama for failure to appear on a forgery charge,” Anderson said. “He also faces pending charges in Florida for the sexual assault that occurred there.”
Jailed on the marijuana charge as well as warrants from Alabama, McCullough remains in the Bulloch County Jail awaiting extradition hearings for the vehicle theft and sexual assault charges in Florida.
