Three Sylvania residents were arrested for felony shoplifting after they tried leaving a local retail store with shopping carts filled with merchandise without paying for the items first.
Around 5:30 p.m. last Wednesday, Victoria Bryant, 44, Jeffrey Oliver, 51, and Jamie Oliver, 29, all of Sylvania, "loaded several Wal-Mart shopping carts full of merchandise and exited the store without paying for it," said Statesboro Police Capt. L. C. Williams.
A store employee saw the three and tried to stop them, engaging in " a brief struggle" with Jamie Oliver to prevent his leaving the store, he said. The encounter ended with Oliver being detained and neither he nor the store employee injured, Williams said.
Statesboro Police officers arrived to investigate the incident and learned  Jeffrey Oliver and Bryant were also involved in the scheme. "All three were placed under arrest and transported to the Statesboro Police Department," he said.
There, the case was turned over to Det. Kelphie Lundy, who charged each suspect with felony shoplifting. After processing, the three suspects were taken to the Bulloch County Jail, where they later posted bond.
