Police are looking for two men who reportedly robbed a would-be drug dealer who falsely claimed he had marijuana to sell.

The victim actually had no drugs, and when the two would-be customers discovered this, they robbed him at gunpoint of his wallet and cell phone, said Statesboro Police Community Information Specialist Madison Warren.

The robbery took place around 5:15 a.m. Monday at Southern Downs Apartments off Georgia Avenue, she said.

“Information put out by Georgia Southern University’s Eagle Alert system earlier (Monday) indicated that the incident occurred at a local business, The HangOut Bar & Grill, which is not correct,” read a statement on the Statesboro Police Department Facebook page. “This incident occurred at a residence …not at a business.

The victim apparently told two strangers he had marijuana to sell. But during a conversation about the pending deal, the two suspects learned the victim had no drugs, and decided to rob him instead, Warren said.

The victim did not provide a detailed description of the suspects except that they were black males, she said.

The victim was unharmed.
