Fire destroyed the Register Town Hall early Sunday morning in a blaze Bulloch County Fire Chief Christopher Ivey said could be arson. "We aren't ruling it out," he told the Statesboro Herald Sunday afternoon.

The state fire marshal is expected to visit the scene Monday, he said.

Register Mayor Barbara Rushing said some records were recovered, but the building was a total loss.

Ivey said the fire was first reported to Bulloch County 911 around 3:50 a.m.

No one was injured in the fire. Ivey said Rushing told him no one should have been in the building since Thursday.
