A Georgia Southern University student remains in critical condition Monday after an accident Sunday afternoon that left two others dead, said Georgia State Patrol Senior Trooper David H. Averitt.
Jamie Lynn Carter, 22, Lanier Drive, was flown to Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah,  where she was still unconscious and in critical condition Monday, he said.
Two others in the vehicle died. Melissa K. Eustice, 20, Landings Parkway, was transported to Candler County Hospital after the crash, and was pronounced dead upon arrival, Averitt said.
Jessica Lynn Fulmer, 21, Westlake Drive, Martinez, was also flown to  Memorial Health University Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead, he said.
The three women, all Georgia Southern University students, were traveling eastbound on Interstate 16 around 3:41 p.m. Sunday when the accident occurred, he said.
According to witnesses, a white car, "possibly a Ford Taurus," was driving in the right lane and tried to merge into the left in front of the red 2000 Four-runner the victims were traveling in, Averitt said.
There was no contact between the vehicles, but the Four-runner's driver lost control and the vehicle overturned several times, ejecting all three women.
He said he does  not know which woman was driving the vehicle, but the Augusta Chronicle reported Eustice was driving, citing comments from her father, Paul Ikner.
Eustice and Fulmer were graduates of Augusta's Lakeside High School.
Averitt said witnesses did not obtain the tag number of the white car, but the Georgia State Patrol is investigating the accident and is seeking the identity of the white car's driver. Charges could be pending, he said.
Anyone with information on the accident is asked to call Averitt at the Georgia State Patrol Post 45 at (912) 688-6999.
