A 21-year-old Statesboro man has been arrested on charges he had a sexual relationship with a 14-year-old girl, and the teen also faces charges, according to the Bulloch County Sheriff's Office.

The sheriff's office Criminal Investigations Division was notified July 12 of a sexual relationship between the man and girl, Sheriff Lynn Anderson said in a news release issued Tuesday.

Sheriff's Investigator Walter Deal opened a case and determined that the sexual contact had occurred at a home in the 300 block of Lanier Drive, over several months, Anderson said.

The sheriff added that there was no evidence of force involved, and the two individuals were not related.

The male offender, identified as Joshua Alexander Fordham, 21, of Lanier Drive, was arrested Monday and charged with seven counts of statutory rape and one count each of child molestation, enticing a child for indecent purposes and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

The girl was charged with unruly juvenile and fornication.

Fordham is being held without bond pending further judicial action.
