Six arrested on drug charges after 3-month investigation

One of four people arrested on drug charges Thursday after a three-month-long investigation added a charge by lying to officers about drugs he had on his person.
Christopher Lee Bennefield, 24, South College Street, told Bulloch County Drug Suppression Team agents he didn't have any contraband on his person after they arrested him on several other drug charges, but once officers took him to jail, they discovered otherwise, said BCDST Capt. Rick Rountree.
Bennefield had drugs hidden on his body that were discovered during a routine search as he was being booked into the jail, he said. "They were well concealed."
That discovery led to Bennefield being charged with "crossing lines with drugs without consent ...," a charge issued to those who bring illegal drugs onto jail or other law enforcement campuses, he said.
Bennefield was also charged with possession of cocaine with intent to distribute, sale of cocaine, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and obstruction of  an officer.
Also charged as a result of the three-month investigation were Kelli Renee Murphy, 22, Lanier Drive — party to the crime of sale of cocaine; Dontay Lee Williams, 25, Packinghouse Road — party to the crime of sale of cocaine, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, and carrying a concealed weapon; and Antonio Earl Wilson, 23, Sullivan Circle, Millen — party to the crime of sale of cocaine.
Rountree said two other arrests were made as a result of a "spin-off" investigation that stemmed from the three-month observation of activities by Bennefield, Murphy, Williams and Wilson.
Although not connected to the other arrests, evidence and investigations by drug agents led to the arrests of Leisa Marie Lane, 28, Northside Drive East, on charges of illegal possession of Xanax (alprazolam) with intent  to distribute; and of Addison Garnett Reddick, 17, Reddick Road, Portal, on charges of cocaine possession.
All arrested were taken to the Bulloch County Jail where they awaited bond hearings and further court procedures, Rountree said.
