CLAXTON - Through the efforts of the Evans County School System to improve student achievement and implement the Elementary and Secondary Assistance Act of 1965, Claxton High School now offers Supplemental Educational Services to all eligible students.
That is, parents or legal guardians of students who qualify for free or reduced price meals now also may request free tutoring services for their children.
A list of state approved tutors was compiled and distributed by the Georgia Department of Education. At no cost to the parents, students are tutored by one of the approved providers in the student's home, at school, or at a local community center or church, depending on the preference of a specific service provider. Tutoring may take place before or after school, on the weekends, or during the summer.
A Provider Fair will be held in the Claxton High School cafeteria on Thursday, Sept. 9 at 6 p.m. An Supplemental Educational Services provider directory can also be accessed online at the state website (http://www.doe.k12.ga.us/).
Parents attending the fair may ask questions of the providers themselves and will be entered in a drawing to win a flat screen television.
Student incentives and rewards also are available throughout the services program.
