Accepting the Lord's unbelievable love and grace

I read an article the other day, "Is God in our DNA?" Well, from my point of view, absolutely! Of course, we are not godly most of the time, but He created us, named us, called us and put us on this great earth to follow His will, and will be there to judge us when the time is right.

Hopefully, we will evolve into the kind of men and women that will make us proud. However, up to now, we seem to be devolving into more primitive folks who have forgotten what we could become and have chosen to become like spoiled children.

Maybe we need to re-read our anthropology textbooks and re-discover what our ancestors were like, how they survived and re-start our lives. Sorry about the dashes, but they help my writing. I digress.

I can accept the possibility that when our ancestors were running from very large animals who saw them as a quick meal, they had little time to contemplate the universe, let alone ponder the deep theological and philosophical questions of existence. However, as soon as our Neanderthal cousins discovered pointed sticks, group survival and eating S'mores around the campfire and having some good conversation, evolution was just around the corner.

If the anthropologists are correct – and I'll bet they are – there was a transitional period from a primitive terror about the unknown to a more benevolent acceptance of life. They were beginning to make sense out of what was not in their power to control or understand. This may help to explain why we have religion. This is why we have faith in that which is infinitely greater than ourselves.

Having an overwhelming trust in the authority of Scripture, I turn to Hebrews 11:1, "Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen."

Hang on now! If I am not careful, I may get the impression that I am so like God in my own image that I have evolved from being a creation to a creator! Whoa!

As I sit here, I find that the more I write, the more I think, and the more I think, the more I want to write.

I find that I don't really care about the sociologically sound theories about our need to congregate in religious communities. I only know that we cannot truly live and survive without these wonderful loving people.

I do care about the scientific discoveries that continually support that we are extraordinary human beings, which never cease to amaze the medical professionals. Every morning should amaze us! We might not care about insightful presentations that can intelligently explain away faith any more than those who constantly work hard to explain faith. We exist in faith and will die in faith. There is little else we can do.

There is a wonderful passage in Jeremiah that I always turn to when I find myself wondering if I need to prove God's existence. I must confess that life is tough and can get a lot tougher if I am nothing more than a nanosecond in history.

"This is the covenant I will make with the house of Israel. I will put my law within them, and I will write it upon their hearts, and I will be their God, and they shall be My people."

Folks, this is all we need. We do not own God and He cannot be captured in a mass of theology, science, philosophy or sermon.

He has overwhelmed us by His unbelievable love and grace and we are His own!

Relax and accept that warm feeling. That is the soft touch of God telling us that all is well. Let's get out there and do what we were created to do!

Thanks, God!
