The following are among the food service establishments inspected in July by the Bulloch County Health Department. The department scores on a 100-percentile scale. Kitchens are inspected at least every four months and are required to post their score sheets in public. The score and selected comments from health inspectors are included in each report. All eating establishments are located in Statesboro, except where noted. To view all restaurant scores, visit and select Bulloch County.

July 16

➤ Beaver House, 121 South Main Street

Bowls stored on the counter unprotected. The paint is coming off the wooden shelves in the dry storage area. Observed hole in the floor by the sink in the kitchen area. Observed hole in the plaster on the wall located by hot-holding unit. Inspector: Karen Anderson.

Observed containers of meal and sugar uncovered in dry storage area. Corrected on-site; container lids were put back on. Observed deli ham placed on top of the Ziploc bag of deli meat in the reach-in cooler. Corrected on-site; deli ham not in the Ziploc bag was discarded. Observed dried food debris on the can opener blade. Corrected on-site; can opener was taken to the 3-compartment sink to be cleaned and sanitized. Observed tea cups being used as a scoop on the sugar, flour and meal containers. Corrected on-site; cups removed from the containers. Test strips were not available to check the concentration of the sanitizer. Observed light in the kitchen was unshielded. Observed can of Coke stored on a prep table. Corrected on-site; soda can was removed and prep table was sanitized. Inspector: Anderson.

July 17

➤ Bourbon Grill & More, 10 Statesboro Mall

Organic matter accumulation in ice machine; clean more frequently. Dried peppers being stored in a mayonnaise container; not labeled properly. Do not re-use single-use mayonnaise container. Mops should be stored hanging to dry, not in dirty mop water. Do not wet-stack bins. Crumbs noted in bottom of upright freezer; debris accumulation on spices in pantry; encrustation in grill/fry area; grease encrusted hood. Inspector: Clifton.

Observed rotten tomato in walk-in cooler; corrected on-site. Observed food debris encrusted dishes stored with clean dishes. Dishwasher not sanitizing; could not get to 180 degrees F. Observed bacon, steaks and chicken not in original packaging, not date-marked to be discarded within seven days of opening/prepping; corrected on-site. Observed wet-stacked food bins. Observed food bins no longer smooth and easily cleanable. Corrected on-site; bins were discarded. No thermometer/heat strips to check internal temp of dishwasher. Inspector: Clifton.

July 18

➤ Captain D's Restaurant, 304 South Main Street

Food not in original packaging should be labeled with common name. Scoop used to dip hush puppy mix stored in dirty water. Wet cloth on prep table should be stored in sanitizer in between uses. Scoop handle down in ice up front. Wet-stacked pans on drying rack; should be staggered to dry. Observed food/grease/grime accumulation on cook line. Clean thoroughly. Observed flies throughout kitchen and a live roach run across the floor. Light around back door; seal to prevent bug intrusion. Inspector: Clifton.
