A Portal man was arrested Monday on charges he raped a teenager Christmas Day. The 14-year-old victim's father learned of the alleged rape Dec. 30 and called authorities, said Bulloch County Sheriff Lynn Anderson.
Bulloch County Sheriff's Investigator Walter Deal arrested Brad Colby McCullough, 21, Grady Street, Portal, charging him with rape and child molestation, Anderson said.
The 14-year-old victim said the alleged rape occurred at a Cowboy Way location near Lake Collins. The teen's family, as well as McCullough's relatives, lives in the Cowboy Way area, he said.
After the report, Deal was assigned to the case and began investigations, he said. McCullough was taken into custody Monday afternoon.
Deal declined to answer if the encounter was consensual, and said the investigation is ongoing and all details would not be released due to that fact.
However, he did say the current charges against McCullough are child molestation and rape, not statutory rape.
Statutory rape occurs between two consenting individuals, when at least one of them is under legal age to consent to sexual relations. A rape occurs when one person involved is not willing, and the act is forced.
Deal is still investigating the incident, he said.
After being apprehended in Portal Monday afternoon, McCullough was taken to the Bulloch County Jail, where he remains without bond, according to jail records.
