Monday, a swarm of uniformed officers invaded a portion of downtown Statesboro as they were seeking a fugitive in the West Main Street area. They didn’t make an arrest then, but Operation FALCON did result in one arrest that day and a second one Tuesday.
Local law enforcement agencies, as well as officers from neighboring counties, participated in the United States Marshal’s Service sweep that is part of a nationwide quest to round up fugitives, said Bulloch County Sheriff Lynn Anderson.
On a local level, two people on the wanted list ended up arrested through the efforts, and one suspect’s wife was also taken into custody due to new charges stemming from a discovery during a traffic stop executed as part of the round up, he said.
Monday, Operation FALCON agents located and arrested Rudolph Hendrix, 54, Denmark Street, who had been eluding law enforcement officers due to parole violation charges, Anderson said.
Tuesday, a traffic stop netted Palmer Bazemore, 40, Buck Creek Road, Sylvania, wanted o a Screven County probation warrant, he said.
But when officers stopped Bazemore, they found evidence that led to new charges, he said.
Both Bazemore and his wife, Tammie Marie Bazemore, 35, also of Buck Creek Road, Sylvania, were charged with criminal attempt to manufacture methamphetamine.
Anderson said the pair had ingredients for making methamphetamine in their vehicle.
After Bulloch County Sheriff’s deputies stopped the car at the intersection of Veteran’s Memorial Parkway and U.S. 301 North, they called for assistance from the Statesboro Police Crime Suppression Unit, Georgia Bureau of Investigation, Statesboro Fire Department and Bulloch County EMS “due to the possibility of a mobile meth lab,” he said.
GBI agents and Statesboro Police CSU Det. Rob Bryan donned haz-mat suits to search the truck, and upon finding the evidence, Bulloch County Drug Suppression Team Inv. Jim Riggs issued the charges of criminal attempt to manufacture methamphetamine, he said.
The Bulloch County Sheriff’s Department, Statesboro Police, Statesboro office of the GBI, Bulloch County Probation Department, Georgia Department of Parole and other local county agencies joined the U.S. Marshal Services in conducting Operation FALCON, Anderson said.
“FALCON” is an acronym for “Federal and Local Cops Organized Nationally,” according to Internet web site www.usmarshals.gov.
According to the site, “peration FALCON is a nationwide fugitive apprehension operation coordinated by the United States Marshals Service (USMS). The resources of federal, state, city and county law enforcement agencies are combined to locate and apprehend criminals wanted for crimes of violence.
“Operation FALCON represents a continuing series of historically successful national fugitive apprehension missions, which have resulted in the collective capture of more than 36,500 dangerous fugitive felons.”
