Statesboro police are seeking a suspect believed to have stolen a truck and burglarized a closed convenience store early Thursday morning.

Around 1:45 a.m., a Statesboro police officer tried to stop a red 1999 Dodge Ram truck that was speeding on Aruba Avenue, said Madison Warren, Statesboro Police community information specialist.

The driver of the truck abandoned it and fled, and the officer found $150 worth of cigarillos and $250 worth of alcoholic beverages. Further investigation revealed the truck was stolen from a Best Street location, according to police incident reports.

Suspicious of the large amount of tobacco and alcohol, officers began investigating and discovered the Sunoco station on North Main Street at West Parrish Street had been burglarized. The business was closed and is under repossession, Warren said.

Officers returned the stolen merchandise to the owner.

There was no description available of the driver.
