The guest on Thursday's ”Mornings unPHILtered” show was Anita Hall of Statesboro's Downtown Development Authority. The Authority is sponsoring a “Wedding Walk as part of tonight's First Friday event. The walk begins at 5:30 p.m.
Pick up a color brochure about the Wedding Walk at the Averitt Art Center, and stroll around the downtown businesses. The brochure also acts as a free pass to the evening's grand event at the Quality Inn on South Main Street. Without the brochure, entrance to the event will cost $5.
The grand event is the “Wedding Fair and Fashion Show” that will be held in the Quality Inn's ballroom. The doors will open at 6 p.m., and people are encouraged to visit with all the merchants who have set up booths for the Wedding Fair in the ballroom.
Hall told host Phil Boyum that downtown merchants decided that as the hub for buying wedding wear in the region, they should hold the first ever downtown walk, fashion fair and wedding show. Some will be open for business, while some will also be participating in the show at the Quality Inn.
The Bridal Fashion Show begins at 7 p.m. Transportation will be provided for free from downtown to the Quality Inn for the fair and wedding show. The fashion show will feature items from four downtown stores: Frills and Fancies, Bridal Creations, Cobblers Bench, and R.J. Pope.
Hall said a total of 36 downtown merchants are involved in holding the fair. Some of the others involved in the event are Design by Fives, the Carriage House, Statesboro Inn, the Averitt Center, Grice Photography and Yard and Haus.
Merchants will hand out raffle tickets for a chance to win door prizes at the Bridal Fair and Show.
Hall said Shannon Vineyards of Sylvania and Meinhardt Vineyards of Statesboro will provide beverages for attendees, and Flat Creek Lodge will provide a selection of cheeses for people to sample.
For more information, call the Development Authority at 764-7227.
