A Metter teenager was killed Thursday in a collision with an 18-wheeler on Interstate 16.
Cody Eugene Zerwig of Highway 23 in Metter was driving in the right westbound around 6:30 p.m. Thursday near mile marker 112. He was driving behind an 18-wheeler heading west in the left lane, according to Georgia State Patrol reports.
The tractor trailer rig slowed for traffic, and as it did, Zerwig, 18, moved into the left lane behind the rig, but did not slow and collided with the rear of the 18-wheeler, reports stated.
Upon impact, Zerwig’s vehicle spun and came to rest in the median, while the driver of the tractor trailer rig, unidentified in preliminary reports, pulled to the side of the roadway.
Zerwig was killed as a result of the crash.
As the crash remained under investigation, reports available Friday were incomplete, according to a GSP spokesperson.
