A second Metter High School faculty member was charged Tuesday with inappropriate conduct with a student.
Regan Smith, a media specialist, turned herself in at the Candler County Jail shortly after 4 p.m. Tuesday, said Cathy Sapp, the special agent-in-charge of the Statesboro office of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.
Smith's age and address were not immediately available Tuesday. A woman answering the phone at the Candler County Jail said only Sheriff Homer Bell could release the information.
Bell was unavailable for comment Tuesday after Smith's arrest and did not return phone calls afterward.
Sapp said Smith's arrest was not related to the arrest last week of Metter High School paraprofessional Brianna Streetmon, 26, of Salem Church Road in Metter, who was also charged with inappropriate conduct with a student. Sapp said the cases were separate and involve two different victims.
According to reports, Streetmon worked in special education and is an assistant softball coach. GBI is not releasing details of the incidents, including the age and sex of the students.
However, last week, Candler County Schools Superintendent Dr. Tom Bigwood said the student with whom Streetmon is accused of having illicit contact is an 18-year-old male. Despite the student legally being an adult, Georgia law prohibits sexual contact between a teacher and student of any age.
Streetmon was placed on paid administrative leave until the investigation is completed, Metter High School Assistant Principal Ellis Strobridge said.
Candler County school system officials could not be reached for comment Tuesday evening.
In a conversation with the Statesboro Herald prior to Smith's arrest Tuesday, Bell said he was "unsure" whether he could release her jail photo. He did not release Streetmon's photo last week, although information such as ages, charges, addresses and jail photos are public record under Georgia law.
Bell said the cases were both turned over to GBI agents because they involved school faculty members and juvenile students. Sapp said no further information about either case will be released, due to ongoing investigations.
