A man shot during a party on NeSmith Road is recovering, but Bulloch County Sheriff's investigators are seeking information on the incident.
Statesboro police responded to a Peachtree Street home around 11 p.m. Saturday and found Travis Lagrant Jackson of Valdosta, suffering from "multiple gunshot wounds," according to Statesboro police reports.
Further investigation revealed Jackson, 36, was shot on NeSmith Road, said Bulloch County Sheriff's Chief Deputy Jared Akins. After the shooting, Jackson was "driven to Peachtree Street" and sheriff's deputies, along with Investigator Walter Deal, were summoned to take over the investigation, he said.
"Jackson was transported to East Georgia Regional Medical Center and later to Memorial (hospital) in Savannah with a gunshot wound to his lower body," he said. "He is expected to recover."
While sheriff's patrol deputies and Statesboro-Bulloch County Crime Suppression Team investigators secured the scene on Nesmith Road, Deal began interviewing witnesses and the victim.
"Jackson, along with most of the witnesses located, were uncooperative with the investigation," Akins said. "At this point it appears as though an altercation broke out at the Nesmith Road address between members of a group attending a large party there, which resulted in Jackson being shot. It does not appear that the shooting was a random event and the public does not appear to be in danger at this point."
