A man who fired shots during an argument at the Ogeechee River ended up behind bars on aggravated assault charges Saturday.
Witnesses told Bulloch County sheriff’s Cpl. Robert Dinello they were at the U.S. 301 landing on the Ogeechee River Saturday when Douglas Ray Thompson, 23, of Timberland Apartments, started acting recklessly.
One of the victims confronted Thompson and an argument ensued, Dinello stated in a report.
Thompson left and returned with a shotgun and fired several shots toward a number of witnesses. In doing so, he shot the victim’s green 1995 Chevrolet Astro van, Dinello said.
After noting the pellet holes in the van, Dinello found Thompson at his home and questioned him. Thompson said the victim threatened him with a gun and hit his truck with a chain, shattering the windshield, reports say.
Further investigation ended with Thompson being arrested on aggravated assault charges. He was taken to the Bulloch County Jail, where he later posted bond, according to jail records.
Thompson faces court hearings at a later date. No one was injured during the argument, reports say.
