Police arrested a man they said sexually assaulted a three-year-old male relative.
Statesboro Det. Kelphie Lundy said Wednesday he could not divulge the relationship between Timothy Bryan Gordon, 38, Shuman Road, and the three-year-old boy he is accused of molesting because to do so may reveal the victim's identity.
Lundy and Statesboro Police Det. Terry Briley opened an investigation Friday after the child's mother reported the crime, said Statesboro Police Capt. L. C. Williams.
The detectives spoke with the mother and others, collecting evidence and witness statements that led to Gordon's arrest on charges of aggravated sodomy, aggravated child molestation and enticing a child for indecent purposes, he said.
The incident occurred at Foxridge Apartments, Lundy said.
Gordon came to the police department to turn himself in before a warrant had been issued, Lundy said. Wednesday, after warrants were issued, a member of the victim's family spotted Gordon and notified police, but Gordon was on his way to turn himself in at the time, he said.
He was officially charged with the listed offenses, taken into custody and transported to the Bulloch County Jail, where he is being held without bond, according to jail records.
Lundy said the victim was "doing fine."
