Statesboro police arrested a man Tuesday they said is responsible for a March 14 armed robbery at Eagle Gate Apartments.

Detectives identified Omar Jarez Baldwin, of Circle Drive, as the suspect who entered a woman’s apartment at the South Mulberry Street apartment complex and robbed her at gunpoint, said Statesboro police Community Information Specialist Madison Warren.

The victim told police she fought with the suspect until he pulled a gun, then she complied with his demands, handing over a purse, wallet and cash.

She was able to escape the apartment then, and the suspect locked the door, preventing anyone from entering, she said.

The woman contacted a neighbor, who kicked in the front door while the suspect, later identified as  Baldwin, ran out the back door, Warren said,

The victim suffered minor cuts and bruises from her struggle with Baldwin, she said.

Baldwin, 18, was booked at the Bulloch County Jail on charges of armed robbery and aggravated assault.

He remains in jail pending further court appearances.
