Man arrested after box cutter attack
Incident began with dispute over woman
Jamie Weeks

A dispute over a woman ended in a man going to jail Tuesday for assaulting another with a box cutter.

Statesboro police responded around 4:15 p.m. Tuesday to El Sombrero restaurant on Fair Road, where a woman reported “a man with a box cutter.”

Upon arrival, officers learned the offender, Jamie Weeks, 32, West Grady Street, was apparently upset because a woman with whom he had an online relationship was at the restaurant with someone else, said Madison Warren, Statesboro Police community information specialist.

“The suspect was talking to a woman online (in the recent past) and she was in the restaurant eating lunch with another man,” she said.

An altercation resulted, with the male victim receiving cuts and abrasions from Week’s use of the box cutter, she said.

The victim was not transported, only having minor injuries, but Weeks was taken to the Bulloch County Jail, charged with aggravated assault. He has no bond and awaits further court appearances, Warren said.
