It's time to 'Stuff the Bus' 2009

Education experts agree that academic success in school begins with students being prepared with the tools they need in the classroom.  To that end, Prevent Child Abuse Bulloch County has just begun its annual back-to-school supply drive known as “Stuff the Bus.”
The campaign asks area residents to donate school supplies for children in need in the Bulloch County school system.
“It is more vital than ever that we as a community ensure that all students have a successful school year,” said Lora Cooper, executive director for Prevent Child Abuse Bulloch County.  “By donating school supplies to Stuff the Bus 2009 we all can take part in making this a successful school year for the students of Bulloch County.”
Cooper said calls are coming into her office from parents in need of assistance with back to school clothing and school supplies.  With the economy such as it is, Cooper said she believes the need for assistance will be greater than ever before.
Participants can donate school supplies at the following locations through July 27: Prevent Child Abuse office, Statesboro Regional Library, Office of Child Support Services, Ken's IGA, First Baptist Church, First United Methodist Church, St. Matthew Parish & Newman Center, Statesboro Primitive Baptist Church, Trinity Episcopal Church, and St. Paul's Lutheran Church.
The Stuff the Bus 2009 campaign will wrap up on Tuesday, July 28, at Chick-fil-A from 5-8 pm  where a Bulloch County school bus will be stuffed with the donated school supplies.  Everyone who brings school supplies to donate on July 28, will help to stuff the bus and receive a coupon for a free Chick Fil A food item.
Once school supplies are collected, they will be divided and distributed to all elementary, middle and high schools in the Bulloch County public school system.  Monetary donations are also accepted and will be used to purchase school supplies.
Stuff the Bus began when several families asked the Bulloch County Department of Family and Children Services  for assistance with purchasing back to school supplies.  Since buying items for school is not part of the assistance that department can provide, the Board of Directors for Prevent Child Abuse agreed to back the supply drive.
