A man trying to sell stolen property via the Internet didn’t count on the Statesboro-Bulloch County Crime Suppression Team catching wind of his online ad.Richard Keith Lanier, 44, Old Groveland Road, Nevils, admitted the theft after CST investigators Jim Riggs and Ben Lienhard responded to the Internet ad, said Bulloch County Sheriff’s Chief Deputy Jared Akins.Tuesday, a resident reported the theft of almost $5,000 worth of metal trusses from a South Wynn Road location, he said.“… Riggs was able to identify an internet ad listing the stolen items for sale. Posing as potential buyers, Riggs and … Lienhard arranged a meeting with the seller, (who) led the undercover investigators to a wooded area where he had stored the stolen items,” he said.Lanier was arrested at that point, admitting to having stolen the trusses, which were returned to their rightful owner, Akins said. He was transported to the Bulloch County Jail and charged with felony theft by taking.
