Construction has begun on Surcheros Fresh Mex restaurant located at 885 Arch Way in the Market District near the Walmart Neighborhood Market. Surcheros is planning on an early 2020 opening. This will be the first free standing restaurant built exclusively for a Surcheros. The other locations are in strip centers with other retailers and restaurants.
Franchisees Brian Smith and Doug Puryear are excited about the opportunity to be the first to open a Surcheros of this kind. Harper & Sons Construction is doing construction for this project from Douglas, GA.
Currently, Smith and Puryear are the owners of four other Georgia franchised locations in Brunswick, Valdosta, Hinesville and Blackshear. A fifth location for the duo will open in Savannah in late 2019.
Smith and Puryear say Surcheros’ motto of Friendly Tex-Mex, “Fresh Every Day,” is more than just a slogan they like to use. Fresh ingredients served by friendly smiling faces is a priority for the entire franchise, they say.
Featuring a build-your-own concept for creating burritos, tacos, nachos, quesadillas, salads and bowls, Surcheros offers many different toppings and sauces so guests can make each meal to their own tastes. There are no freezers or heat lamps in stores to make sure the freshly prepared food brings out the best flavor.
Surcheros Fresh Mex began in Douglas in 2007, when Luke Christian, CEO/founder, opened his restaurant with a goal of offering superior guest service with the farm fresh foods he grew up with in rural Georgia.
Since then, four corporate stores have been added in Georgia – Waycross, Tifton, Dublin and ABAC Campus in Tifton. In 2017, plans were completed to begin franchising the popular fast casual restaurant. The first franchised restaurant was opened in Moultrie in 2017, with Jesup and Brunswick following.
In 2018, three more locations opened – Valdosta, Hinesville and Loganville. In January 2019, the first Florida location opened in Fernandina. This was followed by two more in Georgia – Cordele in March and Blackshear in July.
September 2019 will see the opening of franchise number 10 in Albany with Savannah, Macon and Milledgeville, in addition to Statesboro to follow in late 2019-early 2020.
I had the opportunity to visit the Brunswick location and was very pleased with the concept. The freshness of the foods, the large selection of options and build your own option will be very popular here with the students and locals alike. tatesboro seems like a natural fit for this concept and I think you all will agree once you give them a try.
