Habitat for Humanity of Bulloch County is set to break ground Sunday at 2 p.m. on what will be the 57th home the local organization has built in cooperation with local first-time homeowners, donors and volunteers.
This ceremony will celebrate the start of construction with the homeowner to-be at 234 Dannie Cartee Road, on the way to Portal from Statesboro. Homeowners invest “sweat equity,” pitching in to help build their home, and then make monthly payments on an interest-free mortgage.
Habitat for Humanity, a nonprofit that describes itself as a Christian housing ministry, was founded in Georgia 43 years ago and now operates on six continents. The Bulloch County chapter has been in existence 28 years, building on average two homes a year.
