Georgia Southern University President Dr. Brooks Keel makes remarks after Director Dr. Brent Tharp announced the American Association of Museums had reaccredited the Georgia Southern Museum.

Tharp made the announcement during a celebration Monday at the museum, which also happened to be the 29th anniversary of the museum's opening in 1982. All museums must go through reaccreditation approximately every 10 years and only 13 other museums in Georgia are accredited.

Keel thanked Georgia Southern students and staff, the community and area schools for supporting the museum through the years.

Dr. Del Presley, who was the museum's first director and attended Monday's ceremony, said: "It was our goal to make the museum a valuable learning tool for students and people in the community. I'm very proud of where we are today and attaining reaccreditation.
