A Statesboro woman was arrested on kidnapping charges after illegally taking her grandchildren from state custody, according to reports.

Hazel LaJuan May, 49, of Highway 24, was arrested on warrants from Monroe County, where she reportedly took illegal custody of her daughters two juvenile children, who were under care of the Department of Family and Children Services while their mother was incarcerated, said Bulloch County Sheriff’s Capt. Todd Hutchens.

May was also jailed on bond surrender for previous charges of felony theft by taking, felony theft by conversion and related charges from a previous case where she is accused of stealing from clients of a housekeeping service, he said.

May is held without bond as she awaits further court appearances.
