Residents living near the Adabell and Old Bowen Store area are warned to be on the lookout for a man who fled Georgia State Patrol troopers earlier today.

GSP troopers and Bulloch County Sheriff’s deputies assisted in a search, including use of a GSP helicopter, to locate the yet-unidentified man who fled from a trooper during a traffic stop, said GSP Post 45 Commander Sg. Brad Mosher.

The man was clocked speeding on Interstate 16, but refused to stop for pursuing troopers, and drove to the Old Bowen Store/Adabell road area, where a trooper peformed a PIT (precision immobilization technique) maneuver stop him, he said.

The man’s car crashed and overturned, but he fled from the vehicle as it came to a rest, taking refuge in a cornfield, Mosher said.

An hours-long search was unsuccessful, but a resident in the area notified law enforcement that he saw the suspect, with an exact description as the man who fled, walk out of the field, he said.

The helicopter search has resumed,, and residents are advised to be alert, lock doors and report any suspicious activity or persons.
