The 21-year-old Fort Stewart soldier killed Thursday in a motorcycle accident on Highway 67 near Statesboro has been identified.
The victim is Dylon Andrew Kelly, 21, said Georgia State Patrol Sr. Trooper Tommy Strickland. The man's name was initially withheld pending notification of his family in Illinois.
Kelly was driving a motorcycle behind Gincy Romano, 37, of Highway 280 in Pembroke, around 6:15 p.m. Thursday on Highway 67 near Emit Grove Church Road. Heading north, Romano was preparing to make a left turn into a private drive, Strickland said.
Kelly may have tried to pass her or swerved due to being too close, and struck her van, he said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The GSP Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team is investigating to determine what happened, and charges are pending, Strickland said.
