Statesboro firefighters fought a small blaze for hours Monday morning at Claude Howard’s Lumber Yard off Park Avenue.
Assistant Statesboro Fire Chief Jason Baker said firefighters were called out around 2:30 a.m. to the lumber yard, where a wood chipper bin had ignited.
Due to the difficulty in reaching the flames deep inside the load of wood chips, the crew remained until around 8 a.m., making certain the flames were doused, he said.
“They were smoldering, and we had limited access” to the fire, he said.
There were no injuries reported, and the wood chip bin suffered minor damage, he said.
