Extravaganza to help children with school clothes

First African Baptist Church is sponsoring a Back-to-School Extravaganza from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at the Jones-Love Cultural Center, next to Luetta Moore Park.
Juanita Allen, the associate pastor of outreach ministry for the church, said a variety of clothes and shoes will be available for children in need of school attire. Some of the clothes are new, some are gently used.
A retired teacher and counselor who worked at Mattie Lively, Julia P. Bryant and Mill Creek elementary schools, Allen understands the needs of children and families at this time of year.
“We knew that so many different churches and organizations were donating backpacks with school supplies, so we decided to do something to help parents with children’s clothing needs,” she said. “This is our first year, but we hope it’s not the last.”
