No foul play suspected in death of 20-year-old

A man whose body was found in a Statesboro pond Sunday was the victim of an accidental drowning, police said.Results from an autopsy scheduled for Tuesday were unavailable Thursday, but Statesboro Police Major Rob Bryan, interim police chief, said no foul play is suspected in the death of Dalen Johnnathaniel Smith, a 20-year-old Statesboro man whose body was found shortly after 7 a.m. Sunday in a pond behind Southern Downs Apartments on Chandler Road. “Officers of the Statesboro Police Department responded to the scene in reference to a possible deceased person in the water,” he said. “Upon arrival, Smith was located in the pond and was pronounced deceased at the scene.”Smith’s body was sent to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Crime Lab in Savannah for the autopsy.
