The trial of three suspects in a double murder that occurred over two and a half years ago is tentatively set for Aug. 25, said a spokesman for Bulloch County Superior Court Judge John R. Turner's office.
Turner is slated to hear the trial. Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty in the case.
Details regarding the trial will be finalized in court Aug. 18.
Alexandra Elizabeth Futch Coulter,23; her husband Dustin James Coulter, 25; and Jerry James Easters , 23, are charged with the Nov. 21, 2005 murders of Alexandria Coulter's father and stepmother, Jack and Paula Futch.
The couple were found dead in their Windmere Drive home off Ga. 46 less than a mile from Smithfield Golf Course after Ms. Coulter called 911 to report the incident.
Jack Futch, who suffered from terminal cancer, and his wife were stabbed to death, investigators said.
During a preliminary hearing in 2007, investigators described finding Paula Futch's body in an upstairs bedroom, Jack Futch's body in a downstairs bedroom, and Alexandria Coulter "tied up on the couch in the living room."
Investigators told jurors they detected discrepancies in testimony after questioning Dustin Coulter and Easters, whom they said took a van from the Futch home and abandoned it off Interstate 16 and Nevils-Groveland Road.
Further investigation led to all three suspects being taken into custody. and charged in the deaths. Each face charges of two counts of murder and armed robbery. Easters is also charged with burglary.
Spokesmen from the Ogeechee Judicial Circuit District Attorney's Office said last year it is not unusual for a death penalty case to take up to three years before coming to trial.
Alexandria Coulter is currently represented by public defender Charles Nester with the Glennville-based Conflict Public Defender's Office, while local attorney Matt Hube represents Dustin Coulter. Easter's representation is also through the Conflict Public Defender's Office, by conflict public defender Steve Yekel.
