Couple find stranger asleep in living room

It can be quite startling to walk into your living room in the middle of the night and find someone on your couch - especially if you do not know the person.

A couple of Wendwood Drive residents were stunned Sunday morning to find a stranger sleeping on their couch. When he would not wake up and leave, they called police.

Around 3 a.m. Sunday, Statesboro Police Officer Charles Bowen responded to the home and spoke with two female roommates who told him the unknown man walked into their home without permission and decided to take a nap on their couch.

The women said they tried to make the man leave, but he refused, said Bowen in a written report.

When Bowen arrived, he learned the sleeping man, later identified as Simon Lake Strickland, 22, 15th Street, Oxford, MS, was quite intoxicated, he said.

Bowen spoke with Strickland and determined he was indeed inebriated, and after some coaxing, woke him and placed him under arrest on charges of public intoxication and criminal trespass.

Nothing was reported damaged and the complainants were not injured in any way, he said.
