Couple charged with drugs, child cruelty
Domestic dispute ends with arrests
Statesboro Police Department patch

A Bulloch Street couple were charged Wednesday after police, responding to reports of a domestic fight, found unsanitary conditions, drugs and paraphernalia.

An outside caller notified police of a possible domestic dispute at the Bulloch Street home, said Madison Warren, Statesboro Police community information specialist.

Robert Eugene Hutchinson, 24, denied there was any altercation, but Sydney Elizabeth Near, 21, told officers she and Hutchinson had been arguing.

When police entered the home, they found “overturned furniture, food, garbage, dirty dishes” and an overall condition of disarray throughout the house, and an infant was present, Warren said.

Further investigation revealed several drug-related items and some suspected marijuana, leading to each suspect being charged with first-degree cruelty to children, possession of less than an ounce of marijuana and possession of drug related objects.

Both Near and Hutchinson were transported to the Bulloch County Jail to await bond hearings.
