Friends of the Statesboro-Bulloch County Library will present local columnist Roger Allen for a “Meet the Author” event at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the community room of the Statesboro Regional Library.
“We are so pleased to have Roger Allen on our program calendar,” said Ceil Hardin, president of Friends of the Library. “He’s a busy man these days as he writes for the Statesboro Herald and does a weekly vodcast. The fact that he is premiering his book at the library is exciting.”
Allen will talk about his new book, "Remembering Bulloch County: Tales from the Babe to the ‘Boro," which includes some of his most popular columns from the Herald, as well as previously unpublished pieces on a variety of local topics.
Some of the past columns include additional material, and readers will find something new in a familiar setting. Allen does much of his research for his writing at the Statesboro Library.
Transportation is one of Allen’s interests, and some of the essays feature various modes of transportation used by early Bulloch residents, including riverboats, trains, and the first automobile in the county.
The book includes more than 40 black and white photographs, and the cover features a beautiful hand colored postcard view of Statesboro’s Main Street.  It is published by The History Press of Charleston, S.C.
There will be a reception and copies of the book will be available to purchase following the program. This event is free and open to the public.
