The 52nd annual Rattlesnake and Wildlife Festival is underway this weekend in Claxton and at the Evans County Wildlife Club festival grounds in Hagan.
The Rattlesnake and Wildlife Festival Parade rattles and rolls through downtown Claxton at 10 a.m. Saturday. Festival hours are 8 a.m–6 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m.–5 p.m. Sunday.
Featured activities include the Rattlesnake Car Show, a 3-D Archery Tournament with men’s, women’s and youth divisions, the Rattlesnake Run, a gun dog seminar, educational shows in the snake pit and more. Singers, cloggers, line dancers and the festival queen contestants — for the crowning at 2 p.m. Saturday — will appear on the entertainment stage.
The Rattlesnake Conservancy, Georgia Reptile Adventures, the Orianne Society, a University of Georgia wildlife biologist and the Department of Natural Resources are scheduled to provide exhibitions in the snake pit, and Georgia Southern University’s Center for Wildlife Education conducts indoor bird-of-prey flight shows.
