Amateur abstract painter, trueborn Kansas Jayhawks fan, new-sprung Georgia Southern Eagles fan and frequent 5K runner Randy Wetmore is now in his sixth month as the professional head of Statesboro’s city government. Ahead looms the fiscal 2018 budget process and his hiring a new police chief. Hired as city manager by Statesboro City Council effective Sept. 1, 2016, Wetmore brought 38 years of experience in managing cities, ranging from tiny Sterling, Kansas, population about 2,000, to Des Moines, Iowa, a state capital with more than to 200,000 residents.
