A stolen car tag report led Statesboro police to arrest five suspects after officers found a stolen car, a large amount of Ecstasy and a stolen handgun.
Friday, a Statesboro Place Circle resident reported someone stole the tag from their vehicle, replacing it with a tag from another state, said Statesboro police Capt. James Winskey.
“A short time later, the victim notified the Police Department that he observed his stolen tag on a vehicle in the Vault Apartment Complex,” he said.
Officers returned and found the victim’s tag on a vehicle they learned was stolen out of Chatham County.
After speaking with witnesses, police discovered the “subjects observed getting out of the stolen vehicle were associated with an apartment in the complex,” Winskey said.
Officers met with the suspects and requested assistance from the detective on duty, Det. Jared Akins.
After further investigation, officers executed a search warrant and seized “a large quantity of suspected MDMA (Ecstasy) pills, approximately one ounce of suspected marijuana and two handguns.”
One of the guns was also stolen from Chatham County, he said.
Five suspects were taken to the Bulloch County Jail, charged with the following:
