HeritageBank of the South announces the recent promotions of Nan Akins, Matthew Huling and Wes Simmons, according to John A. Roach, Statesboro market president.
      Nan Akins, who currently serves as branch manager for the bank's South Main St. location, was promoted to banking officer. A banking industry for more than 16 years, Akins joined HeritageBank of the South in 2011.
      She recently completed the Community Banking Association Consumer Lending Course. She is a native of Baxley, Ga., and is married to Statesboro native Del Akins. They have two children.
      Roach said: "Nan is a tremendous asset to our team and provides great service to our customers on a daily basis."
      Matthew Huling also was promoted to banking officer. He currently works with the bank's special assets division and joined HeritageBank of the South in 2011.
      He is a graduate of Georgia Southern Univer-sity and is an avid fan of GSU Athletics. Huling, a native of Statesboro, and his wife Heather, reside in Statesboro.
      "Matthew has been a valuable asset to the Bank since joining our team. He works diligently to assist our customers with their banking needs," Roach said.
      Wes Simmons, who currently serves as a commercial banker at the South Main St. bank, was promoted to assistant vice president.
      He is a graduate of the University of Georgia's Terry College of Business and also recently graduated from the Georgia Banking School. Simmons is a member of the Downtown Rotary Club of Statesboro, a current board member of the Boys and Girls Club and a graduate of the 2012 Leadership Bulloch class. He joined HeritageBank of the South in 2010.
      Roach said: "Wes has played an active part in the bank's successful growth in Statesboro. He understands the needs of the market and is a great asset to our commercial customers.
