Farmers & Merchants Bank announces the appointment of Robert M. Benson III as vice president, business banker and manager of the Brannen Street branch in Statesboro.
Benson, a 1997 graduate of Bulloch Academy, returns to his hometown of Statesboro after nine years with a large regional bank — most recently in Charleston, S.C. — four years in the Army, most recently as an infantry captain, and a BBA from The Citadel.
The father of two says he is “excited to get back to Statesboro … the closest-knit community I know.”
He added, “Now my boys can grow up with grandparents and lots of cousins around. My wife and I believe it’s so important to raise children around family.”
Benson’s wife Anna is a pediatrician who will practice at Mama Doc pediatrics in Statesboro.
“Like Robert, we at FMB are excited to have him here in Statesboro,” said FMB President Brett Morgan. “His experience in client relationships and business banking is exceptional, and his commitment to the Bulloch community is unquestionable.  We couldn’t ask for a better fit for our hometown banking team.”
Founded 67 years ago, FMB is now Bulloch County’s only locally owned and managed bank. It offers a full range of consumer and business deposit and credit services, including online and mobile banking and remote deposit capture, as well as strength in agribusiness and other local business support.
