The Bulloch County Farm Bureau recently presented a check for $500 to Ogeechee Technical College and the Ogeechee Tech Foundation, Inc. for use in funding an Agribusiness scholarship.

Lannie Lee, president of the local chapter of the Farm Bureau, was on hand to present the check to Ogeechee Tech president, Dr. Dawn Cartee, and Ogeechee Tech Agribusiness Program Director Elliott Marsh.

“We are very happy to support Ogeechee Tech and agriculture education with this contribution,” commented Lee.  According to Lee support for an Agribusiness scholarship will hopefully be an annual project for Farm Bureau.

In accepting the check, Cartee said, “Even though Ogeechee Tech already provides a great value in education, there are always students who need extra assistance to complete their education.  This contribution will certainly go a long way toward providing that extra assistance.”

With one of the only technical college Agribusiness programs in the southeast Georgia area, Ogeechee Tech’s Agribusiness program offers students hands-on training, as well as related classroom instruction in all aspects of Agriculture related subjects.

According to Marsh a number of local Agriculture related businesses and individuals assist the program.

“We depend on many of our local farming operations and agribusinesses to expose our students to the many options available to them.  Farm Bureau is a vital part of the local agribusiness community, and the interest they have shown by extending this contribution is a great example of the support that our students receive from agriculture related businesses in our area,” said Marsh.

Businesses or individuals interested in contributing to scholarships at Ogeechee Tech should contact Beth Mathews, Vice President for Institutional Advancement, at the College.

Through the work of the Ogeechee Tech Foundation, Inc. many students are helped each year by contributions to scholarship funds maintained by the Foundation according to Mathews.  For information on the Foundation or the Agribusiness program at Ogeechee Tech, visit www.ogeecheetech.edu.
