East Georgia Regional Medical Center CEO Bob Bigley announced today that the hospital will be evaluating over the next year the feasibility of creating a new staff position – a community / physician healthcare consultant.
Paul A. Whitlock, Jr., M.D., FACS, former Statesboro surgeon, has volunteered to assist EGRMC with this evaluation. Dr. Whitlock would advise the hospital on community and physician related issues and concerns.  He would also work with East Georgia Regional Medical Center physicians and the community in developing and achieving new goals to further enhance healthcare in our region.
Bigley stated that Dr. Whitlock is uniquely qualified to assist East Georgia Regional Medical Center in this endeavor.  Dr. Whitlock was a member of the hospital medical staff and had a successful surgical practice in our community for over 25 years.  He served as president of the Bulloch Memorial Hospital Medical Staff in 1977 and 1998.
He was also one of the Co-Founders / Directors of Eagle Bank & Trust from 1989 – 1998 and an Advisor to the Present Eagle Branch PAB from 1998-2004.
“We have an outstanding facility in our community which is far superior to the facilities one would find in similar communities of our size.  East Georgia Regional Medical Center has an outstanding, highly qualified medical staff.  There are many challenges facing the healthcare industry today – I’m confident working together we can meet these challenges”, Dr. Whitlock said.
