Avret promoted, Lanier hired at Sea Island Bank

Alana Avret
    Alana Avret was named sales manager of Synovus Mortgage Corp. at Sea Island Bank in Statesboro while Joe Lanier joined the staff as a mortgage lending officer, said D. Wayne Akins Jr., SIB president and CEO.
    “Alana is recognized for her strong background in a broad range of residential loan programs for primary residences, second homes and investment properties,” commented Akins. “In her new position, she will manage our sales team to ensure professional performance and exceptional service for our customers.
    “We are also excited to have Joe join our banking team,” Akins continued. "He is a Bulloch County native who is very familiar with this market area. His background in construction and real estate will be a complement to our staff.”
    On a related note, Akins said both Avret and Lanier will be serving mortgage customers at Sea Island’s new professional center which will open in early March at 1205 Brampton Ave. in Statesboro’s Market District.
    Kim Brannen, SIB vice president and manager of the Private Client Group, added, “We will offer a full array of deposit and loan services in addition to mortgage lending, brokerage and trust services.
    “Our team of 11 professionals has over 100 years of combined banking experience,” continued Brannen, who said the bank is planning a ribbon cutting and open house March 22 from 5 - 7 p.m.
    Avret joined Synovus Mortgage Corp. last fall as a mortgage lending officer after previously serving as a mortgage lender at Park Avenue Bank and as a delegated underwriter for Taylor, Bean & Whitaker Mortgage Corporation. She earned a bachelor’s degree in finance and a master’s degree in business administration from Georgia Southern University.
    A graduate of the Capstone Institute of Mortgage Finance, Avret serves as associate vice president of the Statesboro Homebuilders Association. She is a local board member for the local chapter of the American Diabetes Association and served on the organizing committee for the 2005-06 Bank Blood Drive sponsored by the American Red Cross.
    Avret is also on the Advisory Board at Ogeechee Technical College and she is a member of Leadership Bulloch Alumni. Avret, her husband Chad and son Evan are members of First United Methodist Church of Statesboro where she serves on the Finance Board.
    Lanier, who earned a bachelor’s degree in finance from Georgia Southern University, was previously employed by G.B. Lanier Construction. He has been active in several civic activities including the Statesboro-Bulloch Chamber of Commerce where he is a member of the Political Operations Committee. Lanier served as campaign manager for Augusta native Randy Hall who represents District 22 in the Georgia State Senate.
    He is also involved with the local chapter of Ducks Unlimited and the Sigma Chi Alumni Association. Lanier and his wife Laura reside in Statesboro.
