Earlier this month, the University of Georgia and its Alumni Association released the 40 Under 40 Class of 2016, which includes two Statesboro residents.

The two honorees, Mandy Edwards and Elliott Marsh, are active UGA alumni and active community members.

Edwards is owner of ME Marketing Services, a local social media marketing and web design company. She is involved in the business community with the Tyson Foundation.

Marsh is precision ag coordinator for Southern States Cooperative, is deeply involved in Statesboro and Bulloch County's agriculture industry.

In its sixth year, the Georgia program recognizes outstanding alumni under the age of 40.

From the university's official release: "This year, nearly 400 nominations were submitted. Selections were based on the graduates' commitment to a lifelong relationship with UGA and their successes in both personal and professional endeavors. This year's class includes alumni in a variety of industries ranging from law to optometry, and it includes current and former NFL players and an award-winning country music artist."

For Statesboro to have two honorees is quite an honor.

"I am very humbled and honored to be a part of the 2016 Class of UGA 40 Under 40," Marsh said. "It's a great privilege to represent not only the university, but also the College of Agriculture and Statesboro.

"I look forward to meeting the rest of the recipients and learn even more about how Georgia's flagship university impacts the world."

"I am very honored to receive this recognition from my alma mater, the University of Georgia," Edwards said.

"I am proud to represent UGA and the Terry College of Business wherever I go and in all I do. To be included in this very impressive class is very humbling."

This year's class will be honored at a luncheon at Flourish in Atlanta on Sept. 8, and will be honored during the Georgia v. Nichols State home football game the following Saturday.
