The mother of a boy killed Tuesday night in Claxton remains in critical condition after she and her son ran into the path of an oncoming van, according to reports. Eight-year-old Jorge Luis Ortega was killed in the accident and pronounced dead upon arrival at a local hospital, said Georgia State Patrol Post 45 Trooper Brent Hammond. His mother, Amelia Camarillo Rodriguez of Hagan, was airlifted to Memorial University Medical Center in Savannah in critical condition, he said.
