Boro man, teen charged in armed robbery

    A man and a teenager police said robbed a man at gunpoint early Thursday at his hotel room are both behind bars.
    Stephen Lee Wheeler, 24, Eatonton, and the teen, from Statesboro, were each charged with armed robbery. aggravated assault, kidnapping, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, said Statesboro Police Chief Stan York.
    Wheeler was also charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor, and the teen was charged with unruly juvenile.
    Several Statesboro Police officers responded around 2:55 a.m. Thursday to Howard Johnson's Hotel on South Main Street after receiving a call regarding an armed robbery, he said.
    Det. Terry Briley was also called to the scene to investigate, and collected evidence and witness statements. Investigations revealed Wheeler and the teen,a 15-year-old male, "robbed the victim ... by using a handgun while (the victim) was standing in the doorway of his motel room," York said.
    Officers located Wheeler and  the teen and placed them under arrest, he said.
    The victim was not injured, according to reports. Police did not disclose the amount of money or details about other valuables taken from the victim.
    Wheeler was taken to the Bulloch County Jail, where he remains without bond, according to jail records. The teen was taken to Claxton Regional Youth Detention Center, York said.
