When Statesboro police saw a man walking Tuesday on North College Street, carrying the same backpack that was shown on surveillance video of the armed robbery of Subway early Monday morning, it got their attention.

Members of the police department's Crime Suppression Unit officers stopped Reginald Dominique Bradford, 25, of Ellabell, Public Safety Director Wendell Turner said in a news release issued Wednesday.

"CSU officers made contact with the subject and located the handgun and other evidence that linked Bradford to the robbery," Turner said.

Police investigated a robbery at about 3 a.m. Monday of Subway on Lanier Road, where a man fitting Bradford's description, carrying a black backpack with small white emblems on it, robbed the store clerk at gunpoint and fled with cash, also taking the victim's car, Turner said.

The silver Honda Accent was found an hour later at The Pointe at Southern apartments.

Detective Keith Holloway transported Bradford to the Statesboro Police Department and, after further investigation, to the Bulloch County Jail.

Bradford was booked into the jail on charges of armed robbery, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, theft by taking motor vehicle, and carrying a concealed weapon.

Along with an undetermined amount of cash, Bradford also took the employee's wallet, mobile phone, and vehicle keys before taking the car. No one was injured, Turner said.
